I like this word; A non-running colleague said she thought "Fun run" was an oxymoron. Today I heard on the news that Barack Obama is appointing a "team of rivals" which struck me as being oxymoronic. Have you got any good examples to leave in comments?
Yes oxymorons are interesting - one that springs to mind is 'friendly fire'. I guess some depend on the attitude of the person hearing or reading, like the 'fun run' example! I have always thought that one of the newspapers' oft uses phrases in an oxymoron - 'high class prostitute.' Tautology is found a lot - using the same meaning twice. As in 'overtly obvious' or TSB bank (trustee savings bank bank). apparently tesco's blurb on its thyme says it has an 'aromatic aroma!' Anyway, like the blog page!!
